Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority provides on-the-job
training for Low Rent through the Resident Initiatives Program.
This program is designed to assist residents with learning new skills
which will broaden their marketability in the job market. Training
opportunities range from maintenance/grounds work to office/clerical
work.
Residents who are hired under this program can work up to 18 months.
During that time, their income is not counted toward their rent.
During the first phase of their training period, GMHA's Social
Worker coordinates with residents to:
- Establish
goals
- Refer
them for training that is appropriate for their position i.e.)
Computer classes, office organization
- Meet
with their direct supervisor to review goals and training expectations
- Enroll
them in IDA Savings Program
During the second phase of the training period, GMHA's Social Worker
prepares the resident to enter the job market by:
- Completing
a Career Assessment
- Referral
for interview clothing
- Development
of Resume
- Reassesses
goals
- Job
Search, Application Submission, Cover Letter Preparation
GMHA's Social Worker works closely with residents to ensure a smooth
transition off of Resident Initiatives. It is GMHA's goal to assist
residents with developing new skills while promoting self-sufficiency.
