GMHA
is actively enrolling GMHA-assisted
families as well as income eligible Greene County residents into its Individual Development Account (IDA) Program.
Individual Development Account (IDA) Program
is operated by Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority's non-profit
Sensible Shelter Inc. The IDA program is a savings program in which the money the
participant saves is matched at a 2:1 ratio, up to 4:1 ratio, up to $100 per month.
For example: If a participant saves $25, GMHA will match that deposit
with $50. If a participant saves $50.00, GMHA will match that deposit
with $100. The participant can save more than $100, however the
match deposit will not exceed $100.
This is a five-year savings program. If a participant saves just
$25 per month, at the end of the five-year program they would have
saved $4,500, which includes match. If a participant saved $100 per month, at
the end of the five-year program they would have saved $9,000 including match. The funds may be used for the following purposes: 1) Down
payment for the purchase of a home 2) Post-Secondary education
or 3) Start-up of a new business. The participant saves for five years.
Families that are residents of Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority
Low Rent Housing or holders of Section 8 vouchers whose income is
at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible. Any income eligible Greene County family is eligible to participate. Participants are required to attend Ohio State Universities Extension's money management classes.
The IDA Program not only provides the participants an excellent
opportunity to build a savings, but also empowers them to achieve goals
for their families, such as owning their own home. In addition,
the IDA Program includes education on money management, credit repair,
home buying and much more! Upon completion of the program, participants
will be well educated, will have a lofty savings and will be well
on the road to independence!
